August 2017 marks 10 years of channelcentral being in business. We are incredibly excited to be celebrating. It has taken a lot of hard work to get to where we are today, made slightly harder by the Global Recession that coincided with our launch!
In August 2007 channelcentral started as a team of just 4 people working out of a spare rooms. A year later, our flagship product, iQuote, was born. Today, iQuote is used around the world in over 60 countries by Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc. customers. This configure, price, quote (CPQ) software has helped grow their businesses and provide efficiencies within sales teams in hundreds of Distributors and Resellers.
Off the back of iQuote’s success, channelcentral has been able to develop new CPQ Software services, Product Selectors, B2B Sales Portals, and Smartphone Apps as well as many custom built developments to assist the IT Channel. Our Software has been shortlisted for a few awards along the way too!
Today, channelcentral has 2 UK offices and a presence in the US and Colombia to support it’s ever growing business. With 29 members of staff, many of which have come from the IT Channel and are experts in their field, channelcentral is looking forward to the next 10 years and developing many more software solutions for IT Vendors, Distributors and Resellers.
At our Company Meeting held in August 2017 we reflected on the last 10 years and enjoyed an obligatory cake. A huge Thank You to all of our customers for helping us get this far. We wish we could have saved you some cake!

If you want to put someone who works for a Supplier under pressure just ask this question: “why does your Company exist?”. It’s surprising how many people who work for, or even own, a Company can’t instantly answer this question.
For channelcentral, as our Company name denotes, we’re here to help the Channel and Manufacturers work together more seamlessly and efficiently so all organizations drive towards their objectives. We constantly question whether we are achieving that and whether there are opportunities to offer new services.
When CRN recently released its 2017 Vendor Report we were keen to see whether the World’s Top IT Vendors were satisfying the needs of their Channel Partners: CRN Vendor Report
It’s clear from the Report that there’s still opportunity to improve, specifically in the area of Account Management. As channelcentral isn’t offering Account Management services (e.g. out-sourced Call Centers) how can it be helping Vendors improve?
Lessons from iQuote
When channelcentral launched iQuote into the UK back in 2008, even in its basic form, the feedback we got from Pre-Sales staff was normally two-fold:
1. Lots of suggestions for improvement!
2. The #1 benefit is that it allows Product Managers and Pre-Sales Architects to offer self-serve tools to Sales/Customers for run rate volume so that they can concentrate on large or complex deals.
So many Vendor Account Managers are simply dealing with basic Channel enquiries (stock, price, configuration, attach items) that when something more strategic is needed they’re simply too busy with getting the $2k deal out the door, missing the work that generates thousands of $2k deals or many $200k deals.
We believe that if Vendors adopted this “cut from the bottom” approach, deploying Channel Sales Tools that reduce the simple, volume overhead on their Account Managers their scores in the next CRN Vendor Report will start to improve and those Account Managers will be far more satisfied with their jobs.

Earlier this week channelcentral was fortunate to be part of Canalys Channel Forum EMEA in Barcelona. The event was attended by over 1200 IT Channel professionals from Vendors, Distributors, Resellers and Channel Service Providers.
On Tuesday morning the event was kicked off by Keynote sessions in the main arena from Lenovo, Dell and HP Inc. The Keynote sessions were audience led with a live Q&A. Gianfranco Lanci was up first on stage to discuss the strength of the Lenovo PC business and mentioned how consolidation in the IT Distribution Channel is positive. Lanci was shortly followed on stage by Michael Dell who spoke tirelessly about being number 1 in the market. Dion Weisler of HP Inc. soon fought back and made it very clear that their message is “Partner First”. Weisler spent much time focussing on the messages of Innovation, the Samsung A3 acquisition and diversity in the workplace.
After a short break it was Antonio Neri’s turn on stage from Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Neri also fought back against Dell and who is number 1 and focussed his message on Channel partners. Neri finished by stating that HPE want to be the IT in the ‘Internet of Things’.
The Keynote sessions were closed with Edwin Paalvast of Cisco who echoed Lanci’s message on consolidation in the IT Distribution Channel being a positive move.
The greatest feature of the Canalys event is the one-to-one meeting sessions where Partners have the opportunity to meet face to face, form new business relationships and plan for the year ahead. It was a pleasure for channelcentral to meet many customers there.
Steve Brazier of Canalys wrapped up Day 1 with some interesting industry statistics and his outlook for the future.
A spectacular Gala Dinner took place outside of the city on Tuesday evening which provided another great opportunity for networking, followed by a Sunrise run on Wednesday morning. The final day was packed full of more one-to-one meeting sessions, theatre sessions and a closing note from Canalys.
A great event to celebrate the IT Channel. We hope to see you next year in Venice!

HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise wrapped up a very successful GPC conference in Boston this week.
channelcentral.net was proud to be a Networking Sponsor for the event. The HP Inc. and HPE partner community are strong adopters of the channelcentral.net-developed iQuote tool, and the GPC conference gave channelcentral.net the opportunity to highlight a number of new features within the tool. Among the new features unveiled at GPC were a number of new “Product Finder” filter features for hardware, software, and options; an enhanced user experience that gives more control and preference of view for the user, and the integration of HP Financial Services (HPFS) payment terms so users of the tool can instantly determine the finance options and payments for their purchases. The iQuote product was presented in both the HP Inc. and HPE showcase areas, and throughout the sponsor area by channelcentral.net Client Directors Terry Knott and Tod Johnson. Feedback from HP Inc. and HPE partners and Distributors was very positive, and expectations are that the trajectory of iQuote use will accelerate even faster as the new platform is released.
The GPC event itself was started off as HP Inc. took to the stage on the morning of the opening day by creating a “rave” atmosphere complete with an opening musical act that caught the attention of the senses (and eardrums!) of all attendees. HP Inc. CEO Dion Weisler did a remarkable job of keeping the energy high throughout the 2-plus hour opening session, and highlighted some A3 printer products that have been in the works for some time and ultimately resulted in the HP Inc. acquisition of Samsung’s printer division. How often do you hear an acquisition announcement *and* see their product line-up at the same time!? A great way to start the event for sure. On Day 2, Meg Whitman and the HPE team had their work cut out given the energy HP Inc. injected into the audience; and the speed-themed, “make money” message kept pace quite well with HP Inc. Both the HP Inc. and HPE Showcase areas were busy throughout the show (as was channelcentral.net within the showcase area), and a failed guerrilla marketing attempt by Dell/EMC appeared to lead to an even greater focus on HP Inc. and HPE’s messaging and capabilities to deliver products, solutions, and services via their #1 rated partner network.

As we embark on our tenth year of trading, channelcentral is delighted to announce that it is opening its third office – this time in Boston, Massachusetts, adding the USA to our two existing UK office locations.

This is great news for channelcentral clients based in US, Canada and Latin America. We have many customers in this region using our iQuote Service for Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc.
This investment is about improving the ease of doing business with channelcentral, providing a gateway into the value we offer through iQuote, Freebird and our custom CPQ solutions.
Tod Johnson, formerly of HP, is joining channelcentral and will be running the Americas business as Client Director. Tod is very experienced in the market, has a great network of contacts and really understands channelcentral’s differentiation and service proposition.
We asked Tod his thoughts on joining channelcentral and this is what he said:
“Being a part of a company like channelcentral, with such tremendous capabilities to drive sales across the technology spectrum is incredibly exciting.
