Stoptober– We did it!

November 3, 2017

StoptoberThroughout the month of October we took on challenges to help us break a habit. Across the two UK offices we shared our challenges and created leader boards to help motivate. For each successful day we paid a fee into the Charity pot and for each unsuccessful day our fees were doubled!

Here were some of the challenges:

  • I’m going to stop talking about exercise and actually do it! I’m going for double whammy and also going to not buy anything from Amazon!
  • I’m going to stop using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and concentrate on my life instead of everyone else’s!
  • I’m going to stop eating crisps and sweets…and cake.
  • No more Greg’s sausage rolls!
  • I have to stop finger cracking and nail biting….
  • I’m going to stop smoking Monday-Thursday.
  • I’ll go without my needed work day habits of caffeine and sweets.

The list goes on but as you can see we had a real variety of challenges, and whilst stopping a particular habit may be easy for some people, for others it can be really difficult. It’s personal to the individual. We had some feedback from some colleagues:

“It’s been much harder than I thought it would be. Decaf tea tastes fine but there isn’t that ‘pick-me-up’ afterwards.”

“I am feeling liberated by not being on Social Media – deleting the apps has been a great help as there are no notifications – my mind can focus on other things.”

The benefit that some colleagues have felt from doing their challenges has meant that they have chosen to either continue it or significantly change what they do for the better.

The best bit about these challenges is that we have raised a fantastic amount for our Charities – Special Effect and SNAP. We have raised just under £600 in October to help our chosen Charities continue their fantastic work.
